Occupational Therapists address the whole person by understanding the body system, the effects of our mind on this system, and by utilizing creative strategies (making adaptations when necessary) to decrease pain (physical and emotional), increase mobility and to primarily improve function and quality of life.
Integrative Occupational Therapists include mind, body, and spirit practices/techniques to promote wellness and to prevent illness/injury. Using these holistic approaches, in conjunction with other therapeutic modalities supported by their depth of knowledge in biology, anatomy & physiology, neurology, and psychology, helps therapists get to the "root" cause of the problem. Educating clients in the value of small lifestyle changes, making time for wellness, empowers them to meet long term goals to, more independently, manage their health.
